Mama Said
Mama Said
Verse 1:
I've got her eyes, that's what my mama said,
Her softly spoken words still echo in my head,
She was proud, yes she was proud of me,
She said, You'll be a good man,
The best that you can be,
Cause God gave you to me,
That's what my mama said
Verse 2:
He's out of pain now, that's what my mama said
How do you tell a little boy his daddy's dead,
Be a big boy, son now don't you cry,
You know he was a good man, the best that he could be,
And he left you with me,
That's what my mama said
So, she brought me up, all by herself,
We were all alone, no man to help,
And she'd ask Jesus every night
To show her how to do it right.
Verse 3:
So through my mama's eyes, a quiet tear I'll shed,
The angels came while she was sleeping in her bed,
She gave me life, she gave me everything
So I could be a good man, the best that I can be,
She did it all for me
That's what my mama said

Short Song Description:
Tribute to my Mama. This is about the hopes and dreams a mother has for her young son, the the challenges she faces raising the boy on her own after his father's death.
Long Song Description:
"Mama Said" is a slow ballad. Musically, though basically a country ballad, to me it has an Eric Clapton,"Tears in Heaven" feel. The lyrics tell the story of a man looking back on his mother's life, and her efforts to raise him on her own after his father's death. and her faith in Jesus to help raise the child. He reflects on these things as she is now in her dying days.
